Everton vs Man City bet builder tips is on the agenda for today. It’s a big meeting at opposite ends of the table on Sunday afternoon, as Sean Dyche’s men plot to deliver more of what was on show in Brighton last time out.
In this article:
England, Premier League, Sunday, May 14th, 20:00 (UK)
There’s a devil on your shoulder, and he’s getting progressively louder as the days count down to Manchester City’s jaunt to Goodison Park. Screams of Everton’s 1-5 thrashing at home to Brighton, mixed with the fact that Everton away is sandwiched between two blockbuster Champions League semi-final ties with Real Madrid, make up the foundations for his tempting reasoning to back against this Pep Guardiola-led juggernaut.
At 9.00 for the win, that’s value in front of a frenetic fanbase collectively pushing on their side to avoid relegation. Even if you’re not brave enough to back Everton on the nose, the +1.5 Asian Handicap in the hosts’ favour will take the fancy of many.
For me, it’s hard to consider putting my hard-earned anywhere but behind a City team with plentiful assets – enough to gloss over tricky scheduling and do enough to get the job done. Saying that, though, the Asian Handicap is undoubtedly a tempting one, returning profits if Everton loses by one goal or better.
It’s essential to take the Brighton victory on its own rather than naturally assume that it will carry over against City. Sean Dyche implemented a game plan that worked wonderfully. He set traps in Everton’s midfield that encouraged Lewis Dunk and Brighton’s other ball carriers to wander into an area where The Toffees would subsequently restrict space, cut off passing lanes, and pounce to regain possession and work their way upfield.
It worked magnificently. Not only was the art of turning over possession so proficient, but the clinical nature at the top end of the pitch dovetailed brilliantly with Everton’s approach to their counter-attacking. Yet, doing something similar against this Manchester City team, the best in world football, will be particularly difficult.
We saw against Real Madrid specifically, and for seasons gone by under Pep Guardiola, that their midfield is almost press-resistant – working their way out of trouble and threading balls in corridors that opposing players don’t even see.
In black and white, using the Premier League table as a guide, both sides need victories on the board if we’re assuming Arsenal and the lesser lights of the division are to pick up points. Everton isn’t safe, nor is the title, so we certainly have a game on our hands. But how does one approach it from a betting perspective?
One of the joys of penning betting content in advance is that the bookmakers rarely make it easy for us in terms of releasing the prop markets in good time.
But fear not, props aren’t the be-all and end-all, although they are handy in producing a lofty bet builder price. Instead, we’ll have to side the main markets on offer. A Manchester City win is short at 1.36, considering the schedule, Everton’s need for points, and the likelihood of resting personnel. However, their surge for the Premier League title doesn’t look as if it will slow down any time soon. Let’s take it.
Next, with the importance of the game for both sides, a card each can drag us up to 1.90. Again, not the biggest of prices, but it makes for a decent-enough-looking double act at just shy of evens. Anthony Taylor is the man in the middle. He’s not the most frivolous with his cards, granted, but with an 89% strike rate for showing both teams a caution – that’s not a bad shout.
Everton will be tough-tackling and seek to frustrate City when they can. The Toffees possess the type of players you want on your side when taking a bookings angle – Gueye, Onana, Godfrey, Tarkowski, even Pickford – to name just a handful. And Manchester City are no angels; 1.50 cards pr90 when playing away from home suggests as much, with their opponents averaging 2.00 per90.
These bet builders are usually an odds-against punt. Yet, with the lack of choice in terms of props, I think we’ll stick with this at 1.90.
