Jimmy’s Long Shot Punt: A 1631/1 Goalscorer Trixie from the Premier League and Championship

Jimmy’s Long Shot Punt: A 1631/1 Goalscorer Trixie from the Premier League and Championship

I was caught in a few minds as to what to pick for this weekend’s longshot punt.

I have a few angles worth exploring, but the international break has cast some uncertainty over team news.

In the end, I thought it would be best to wrap my favourite three goalscorer picks in a goalscorer Trixie that pays out at 1632.00, deriving from the Premier League and Championship.

Acca odds: 1632.00

Odds via Sky Bet as at 17:00, September 13th 2023. Odds may now differ.

Southampton vs Leicester: Clever as a Fox

England, Championship, Friday, September 15th, 20:00 (UK)

Southampton are a great choice for the Friday night televised game in the Championship.
They score plenty and concede even more; no side has shipped more in the second tier than the Saints, with 12.

Why are they so creative and clinical yet porous? I think Russell Martin is having teething issues on the South Coast.

Wherever the supremo has gone, he gets a tune out of his sides offensively. Defensively, it seems to take a little longer, though, which is great news for this fixture at St Mary’s with Leicester.

When previewing this game with a bet builder, I noticed the Saints conceded a lot of shots from opposition full-backs, particularly right-backs. As I said in that article, only one right back in the Championship this campaign has failed to register at least one attempt against Southampton.

None have scored against Martin’s side yet- QPR’s went the closest by rattling the woodwork- but hopefully that will change on Friday evening.

Ricardo Pereira is not famed for his offensive exploits but is undoubtedly too good for the level and has had a fair few attempts already this season.

Wolves vs Liverpool: Reds van Dijk Light Spells Danger

England, Premier League, Saturday, September 16th, 12:30 (UK)

The logic behind backing Rayan Ait Nouri anytime is exactly the same as when I touted a Lucas Digne goal and booking before the international break.

Yep, that pick went terribly, but I still think there is a gapping vulnerability that needs to be exploited in Liverpool’s defence.

Virgil van Dijk is suspended, Trent Alexander-Arnold had to pull out of England duty with a knock of some sort- suspicious timing- but should be fit for Saturday’s early kick-off.

It’s a combination of circumstances that leave the Reds light on the right side defensively. TAA has left a lot to be desired defensively this season, and without Van Dijk in the side, it may only make matters worse.

Anthony Gordon (LW) gave TAA a torrid time at St James’ Park, scoring the opener and almost drawing a red card. Ben Chilwell had loads of space on match-day one. He grabbed an assist and had a goal chalked off.

Like Pereira, Rayan Ait Nouri is 19.00 for a reason; he does not score much. The Algerian did bag twice last campaign, though, and has missed a ‘big chance’ this campaign.

  • Selection: Rayan Ait Nouri Anytime Goalscorer
  • Best Odds: 19.00

  • Stake: 1/10

Bournemouth vs Chelsea: Cherries best Chill-welled

England, Premier League, Sunday, September 17th, 14:00 (UK)

Ben Chilwell has enjoyed a fine start to the campaign. An assist and the captain’s armband.

The full-back has a lot more to give defensively as well, racking up six shots in the Premier League and an xG of 0.70.

Last campaign, he averaged 0.13 goals per 90, which translates to a price of 7.69, so there is a marginal bit of juice in bet365’s price, and that is without considering the opposition.

Bournemouth were touted by many for great things this campaign. They have looked impressive in spells, but there are clear teething issues for Andoni Iraola as he tries to implement his ideas.

The Cherries are yet to keep a clean sheet this campaign, conceding at least two goals in each of their last four, including three at Anfield.

  • Selection: Ben Chilwell Anytime Goalscorer
  • Best Odds: 8.00
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stake: 1/10
