Jimmy’s Longshot Punt: As easy as one, two, three

Jimmy’s Longshot Punt: As easy as one, two, three
IMAGO / Sportimage Heung-Min Son of Tottenham celebrates scoring their second goal during the Premier League match at Selhurst Park, London.

Another weekend, another Longshot Punt from our expert, Jimmy The Punt, and this one takes us across the best of the Premier League, Championship and FA Cup action this weekend.

I don’t know about you, but I like the idea of having a punt that could win handsomely, odds-wise. At 25,010.00 this weekend, the TRIXIE ticks that box: small stakes, slim chance, but the potential for it to be one to remember.

We only need six goals from three different goal-scorers as well.

Acca odds: 25,010.00

Odds via Betfair, Paddy Power as at 19:15 1st November 2023. Odds may now differ.

Leicester vs Leeds: A Treble of Doubles?

England, Championship, Friday November 3rd, 20:00 (UK)

This weekend’s Championship slate kicks off with a humdinger as leaders Leicester host fellow promotion hopefuls Leeds.

The pair dropped down from the Premier League together and were the two ante-post favourites for the title. Now 14 points separate the sides, with the Foxes 1.44 on to finish top of the pile and Friday’s opposition out to 12.00.

Leeds’ tally of 25 points would have seen them in pole position at this stage in some of the seasons from yesteryear; Leicetser’s tally of 39, though, is record-breaking as no side has won more points 13 games into a second-tier campaign.

How sustainable is that in this division, though?

Leicester are obviously an unbelievably talented group of players coached by a footballing genius. This run could continue indefinitely, not least because they keep finding results despite not playing to their full potential.

I don’t wanna live in a world where a side can coast to a Championship title, though, and some recent performances suggest Enzo Maresca’s side are not invincible.

Swansea took the lead against them in round 12, then Sunderland ran them very close the following game and were unfortunate not to get a penalty. It also took two efforts from range, one deflected, to labour past 10-man QPR in the Foxes’ last game.

Leeds certainly has enough quality to cause Leicester some issues. The exciting thing is Daniel Farke plays attacking football, and his opposite number does not compromise for anyone, so we should see plenty of goals at the King Power.

Crysencio Summerville hit the double-double in his last appearance, having a direct hand in each of his side’s four goals. That took his tally to 10 goals and assists for the campaign and meant he has hit two braces in as many starts.

There is some disparity in price across the firms for him to make it three in as many games, but the 41.00 available on Betfair and Paddy Power is the best by some distance. It is as short as 19.00 elsewhere.

  • Selection: Crysencio Summerville Brace
  • Best Odds: 41.00
  • Bookmaker: Betfair, Paddy Power
  • Stake: 1/10

Chesterfield vs Portsmouth: Naylor(ed) on to score

England, FA Cup, Sunday November 5th, 12:15 (UK)

Chesterfield welcome Portsmouth in the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon, a clash between two table toppers.

The exact gulf in quality between the pair is hard to determine. In terms of leagues, it’s one, and positionally, it is 47 places, but the lines between non-league and the football league have been blurred by the financial clout of clubs in the fifth tier.

Notts County and Wrexham are the poster boys for this. The pair went up together last season and immediately were amongst the favourites for the League Two title.

Portsmouth sit top of the third tier amidst a 26-game unbeaten run in the league, but John Mousinho will be aware of the banana-skin nature of this fixture.

Former Pomey player Tom Naylor will relish playing his former employers this weekend.

Naylor dropped down from the Championship to join the Spireites to play in the Conference for the first time since he left Mansfield over ten years ago.

He has wasted little time in reacquainting himself with the division: 16 appearances, six goals, as many yellows and a red card.

Though it is his price to score anytime that appeals here, I would not put anyone off the goal card combo when the markets are available.

  • Selection: Tom Naylor Anytime Goalscorer
  • Best Odds:10.00
  • Bookmaker: Betfair, Paddy Power
  • Stake: 5/10

Tottenham vs Chelsea: Pair of (match) balls please

England, Premier League, Monday 6th October, 20:00 (UK)

Originally, the bet was just going to be a Summerville brace, but 41.00 doesn’t butter no parsnips. The combination with a Naylor goal boosted the odds north of 401.00, but I wanted something a touch bigger.

The punt needed a little more razzle dazzle duly provided in the form of a Son Heung-Min hattrick.

Tottenham’s talisman appears to be relishing life post-Harry Kane. Son has struck up a new partnership with James Maddison, and since the positional switch, he is well and truly amongst the goals.

The South Korean international played the opening three games on the left but, since moving centrally, has scored eight goals in seven games, the first a flurry at Turf Moor, where he took home the match ball.

Son also hit a brace at the Emirates and bagged against Liverpool, showing he thrives on the big occasions.

Although Chelsea is one of the ‘big six’, they cannot be compared to Arsenal and Liverpool in anything other than the stature of the club, and even that is debatable.

The Blues have shipped four goals in their last two, so one of the division’s top scorers should put them to the sword.

  • Selection: Son Heung-Min Hattrick
  • Best Odds: 61.00
  • Bookmaker: Betfair, Paddy Power
  • Stake: 5/10
