European football-chasing Girona may not have been Cleta Vigo’s first choice to face as they aim to avoid the pull of relegation. Nevertheless, having won just 18% of their 17 away matches this term, it’s certainly not the worst opposition to be lumped against with three games to go.

Girona are now two points off Athletic Club in the final European spot in 7th. Clearly punching above their weight after being promoted via the La Liga 2 promotion playoffs in June last year, there’s a feeling of having absolutely nothing to lose with Celta Vigo, Real Betis, and Osasuna the three games providing the end to a marvellous season.

With La Real getting into a habit of scoring two or more goals in their league outings, perhaps Almeria could be in a bit of bother here. The away side have scored in each of their last seven away games. Zooming out and analysing the whole of the season, that goal return on the road equates to 12/16.

Those in Barcelona have already been crowned as La Liga champions – pretty impressive considering there is still three games to go and the likes of Real Madrid and Atleti are chasing. Ath the other end, though, there’s a frantic fight for survival.

A total of eight teams up to Valencia in 13th are in contention for the drop, with every much-desired point now worth its weight in gold. Real Valladolid is one of said teams. Currently in 18th and certainly not safe, they need points on the board in their final three fixtures for any chance of La Liga football next season.

They’ve lost their last five on the spin, so Barcerlona’s visit will not be welcomed with too much optimism by the hosts. However, in their last five home games, Valladolid have averaged 17.40 shots per90 – that’s huge.
