The Premier League relegation places are no nearer to being decided and with that in mind, Nathan Joyes provides his Nottingham Forest vs Fulham prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures preview.
Having landed all three tips in his Nottingham Forest vs Crystal Palace preview at the weekend, be sure to check out three more selections below. It’s a meeting which has much more importance placed on it for the home side, as Nuno’s Forest scraps for the right to remain in England’s top flight.
England, Premier League, Tuesday, April 2nd, 19:45 (UK)
For the 11th match in a row, once again Nottingham Forest failed to keep a clean sheet after their 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace. The last time the Reds managed to prevent a team from scoring came vs Championship side Bristol City in the FA Cup.
Without clean sheets, Forest will be worried about avoiding the drop – especially with their point dedication now in place.
Unfortunately for the hosts, Fulham arrive at the City Ground in goalscoring form. Having scored three last time out vs Sheffield United, the London side made it eight games in a row where they’ve found the back of the net.
Comprehensive victories over Spurs, Brighton and Man United at Old Trafford have seen Fulham endure a successful season so far.
However, it has largely been their home form which has seen them flourish. On the road, Marco Silva’s side have conceded 32 goals in 15 matches – and this is where Forest will need to punish the travelling side.
Once again the atmosphere will play a vital role, and with Fulham having returned tickets, the crowd can influence the game if Forest get on top of the match.
Yet having conceded five in the reverse fixture this season, nothing at present points towards Nuno Santo’s side changing their unwanted record. Despite this, Forest have often found the back of the net at home, especially against clubs outside of the top six.
With Forest being unable to keep clean sheets, Rodrigo Muniz is enjoying a spell where he can’t stop putting the ball in the back of the net.
The Brazilian has scored four in his last five, which included a stunning stoppage time volley vs Sheffield United at the weekend.
He’ll arrive in Nottingham on a high, and if Forest choose to play Felipe at centre-back, Muniz’s pace and agility will help create the space needed to add another goal to his tally this campaign.
With fellow Brazilians Willian and Andreas Pereira in behind, Muniz has struck a formidable relationship with the duo, who’ll be looking to feed their striker as often as possible.
No doubt Forest will have lapses in concentration defensively, or nerves on the night, and Muniz can punish them.
Although I’ve spoken heavily about Forest’s frailties, improvement has slowly come about at home in recent weeks. A comfortable 2-0 win over West Ham showed how capable they can be on their day, especially at the City Ground.
Tough 1-0 defeats vs Liverpool and Man United followed and were hard to swallow, but the hosts had their chances on the counter. In fixtures where many roll over, Forest rose to the challenge.
Chris Wood’s incredible header vs Crystal Palace deserved more credit for the technique, and his ten Premier League goals this campaign could be the difference if they are to stay up. However, although the Reds lost the first half, they dominated the second period.
Having won the second half, Forest will arguably have been disappointed they were unable to kick on and claim all three points – a positive trait when you’re fighting for points in the toughest league in the world.
There’s no doubt Fulham will have periods where they dominate the match, but if Forest fall behind and they are chasing the game, expect a less conservative approach which can see them nab a potential second half victory once again.
Nottingham Forest vs Fulham Prediction odds via bet365 as at 09:00, March 1st, 2024. Odds may now differ.
It’s fair to say Nuno Santo hasn’t won over the Forest faithful as of yet; largely for his preferred starting XI in recent weeks.
With the quick turnaround between Crystal Palace and this fixture, it’s yet to be seen whether he’ll rotate the likes of Ibrahim Sangare, who has failed to adapt to the pace of the Premier League.
Fortunately there’s no fresh injuries for the hosts, but they’ll be desperate for Taiwo Awoniyi to return to full fitness before it’s too late.
Fulham are in a fortunate position where they have pretty much a full squad to pick from, but Silva may look to rotate during a busy period.
Nottingham Forest possible starting lineup: Sels; Aina, Murillo, Omabamidele, Williams, Sangare, Yates, Hudson-Odoi, Gibbs-White, Elanga, Wood
Fulham possible starting lineup: Leno; Robinson, Bassey, Adarabioyo, Castagne, Lukic, Palhinha, Willian, Pereira, Iwobi, Rodrigo Muniz
