Bournemouth vs Newcastle: European hangover
England, Premier League, Saturday November 11th, 17:30 (UK)
It is back to where it all began for Eddie Howe this weekend, a trip to the south coast to face former employers Bournemouth.
Under his tutelage, the Cherries enjoyed a meteoric rise from the foot of League Two to the Premier League.
He returns to the club that launched his managerial career, spearheaded by their former talisman.
The Toon returned from the continent with their tails between their legs after Borussia Dortmund completed the double over them. The group of death is proving to be exactly that. After picking up four points from their opening two games, Newcastle prop up the table two thirds of the way through the group stage.
Balancing European and domestic duty is no mean feat, but one Howe has managed pretty well thus far. Newcastle remain unbeaten in the matches that follow their UCL games, but maintaining that record looks increasingly difficult as injuries tot up.
The visitors have nine confirmed absentees here, which could be 10 if Callum Wilson does not shake off the hamstring injury he picked up in Dortmund in midweek.
All things considered, this trip down south may not be as straightforward as Newcastle’s odds on price suggest. The Magpies have only won twice on the road this season (albeit by an 11-0 aggregate) and have failed to put lesser sides like West Ham and Wolves to the sword.
Bournemouth, with a goal headstart on the asian handicap, appeals with the added security of money back if the hosts lose by one goal.
- Selection: Bournemouth +1.00 Asian Handicap
- Best Odds: 1.73

- Stake: 5/10
Liverpool vs Brentford: Against the grain
England, Premier League, Sunday November 12th, 14:00 (UK)
The goal line in this fixture is high, a little bit too high if you ask me.
It is understandable to be fair, Liverpool has been pure chaos this season and you would expect nothing less with Alexis Mac Allister operating as a holding midfielder.
There were five goals in the south of France on Thursday, the 13th time both teams have scored in a game involving the Reds this season and overs have clicked in 70.6% as well.
I will be siding with a lack of goals in Merseyside this weekend though and backing under 3.5 goals because of the visitors.
All bar three of Brentford’s games this season have seen three or less goals scored, which includes all of their six away games. Against the ‘big six’, this bet has clicked four of Thomas Frank’s sides in five games. It is also worth noting it clicked the last time these sides met at Anfield.
Chelsea vs Manchester City: Too big to ignore
England, Premier League, Sunday November 12th, 14:30 (UK)
Defeats against Newcastle (League Cup), Wolves and Arsenal are the only exceptions to an otherwise flawless start to the campaign for Manchester City.
The common denominator in those losses? No Rodri. Since the Spaniard’s return to midfield, City have won their last five on the spin, including a 3-0 victory over Young Boys on Tuesday, securing their place in the Champions League knockout stages in midweek.
It has been a season of false dawns for Mauricio Pochettino Chelsea this campaign, and you sense the 4-1 victory in North London on Monday was another.
Draws with Liverpool and Arsenal were followed by defeats. Even though the Argentine boss side is taking shape, I worry they are still a long way off the levels of Sunday’s opponents.
At 1.73 generally, the bet is the victores to win. It is the longest price Man City have had domestically since they beat Newcastle in the middle of August.
The only caveat is the absence of John Stones, who Pep suggested is just as crucial to the side as his midfield partner Rodri. The Spanish supremo suggested the pair come as a package deal, working in tandem to balance the squad and without Stones, City could be weaker.
Even with that considered, the price of an away win is too big to ignore.
- Selection: Man City to Win
- Best Odds: 1.80
- Bookmaker: BetUK
- Stake: 10/10
