Brentford vs West Ham Preview

Brentford host West Ham in what should be something of a dead rubber. The Bees have almost secured their top half finish but have a slim chance of a European spot. The Hammers have almost secured their Premier League survival but will be thinking about their chances in Europe as well. This game is sandwiched by their two-legged Europa Conference League semi-final tie with AZ Alkmaar.

Last weekend’s win over Manchester United will give West Ham a feeling that they have done just enough to beat the drop. They’re seven points away from Leicester in 18th place and will play the Foxes on the final day. Anything other than three consecutive defeats will secure their place in the Premier League. With that all but wrapped up, David Moyes’ attention is on the Europa Conference League with a chance to win West Ham a first European trophy since the 1999 Intertoto Cup.

Brentford vs West Ham Best Bet

It’s a difficult one to bet on but I believe there is an angle in. The focus is on Brentford’s home form. The Bees are something else when they play at home. Brentford have only lost twice on home soil in the league this season and they came against Arsenal and Newcastle. They host Manchester City so this may well be their last opportunity to secure a league win in front of their home supporters this season.

I originally looked at the goals angle here with BTTS attracting. However, I suspect that West Ham’s European obligations will lead to a weakened team lacking focus. The hosts can punish them here.

Everton vs Man City Preview

Manchester City are six wins away from perhaps the best season of any English side in history. The treble is still very much on for Pep Guardiola’s men after booking their place in the FA Cup final and fighting back to secure a 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in their Champions League semi.

The prize on offer for Everton is a little less glamorous – but no less important to the club. The Toffees will surely need at least a few points from their final three matches to secure Premier League survival. They’re two points ahead of both Leicester in Leeds but have an inferior goal difference to the Foxes.

They host the champions-elect at Goodison Park with an historical record that hardly encourages. The Toffees haven’t beaten Manchester City in the Premier League since 2013. Leon Osman and Nikica Jelavic got the goals that day in a 2-0 win. The same result here is one for the brave at 67.00 odds.

Everton vs Man City Best Bet

I’m not expecting anything similar. Everton will be full of confidence after that 5-1 win at Brighton last season but this is a test on another level. Still, it’s hard to look beyond Sean Dyche’s side with that +1.5 handicap line.

There’s a reason why so few English clubs win the Treble. It’s difficult at this time of the season. Just look at Liverpool who only lost two of their 35 matches between January and May last season and walked away with one trophy when three were available.

Pep Guardiola will know that and of the three on offer right now, the Premier League title looks the most secure and the Champions League is the least likely. They can afford to drop points here to provide extra focus and energy to that second leg against Madrid next week. That’s not to say that will happen but a slight drop-off in intensity is likely. That may well go punished at a noisy Goodison Park.

Arsenal vs Brighton Preview

The final of three matches in the Premier League on Sunday sees Arsenal host Brighton. Should City leave a point or three at Goodison Park, Arsenal will be eager to make up any lost ground in the late game.

The Gunners look back to their best after a late-season wobble that culminated in that 4-1 demolition at the Etihad. Consecutive wins over Chelsea and especially away at Newcastle have brought the swagger back to the Gunners. They’ll now hope to continue their strong home form and perhaps even keep a first clean sheet at the Emirates since March 1st.

For Brighton, this is about recovering from last week’s surprise defeat to Everton. European qualification is still the goal and they’ve got two games in hand over the sides around them. Still, Roberto De Zerbi’s men will have to beat the best if they’re to get there with games to come against Newcastle and Manchester City after this trip to the Emirates. It’s a ground they won at last season and will feel quietly confident here.

Arsenal vs Brighton Best Bet

It’s a tough match to call. Arsenal should secure the three points but I’m not confident enough to back them either outright or on the Asian handicap line. Instead, I’m looking at goals. It should be a high-scoring game. They usually are when Arsenal take to the Emirates Stadium pitch with over 2.5 goals and BTTS landing in eight of their last nine home games. That’s a low price at 1.86.

Instead, I’m looking at the handicap goal line. The handicap line is at 3.0 exactly which feels a little low considering Brighton’s last three games have averaged 3.8 goals and Arsenal’s have averaged 4.1. The over looks good here.
