Premier League Best Bets: Saturday May 7th

We’re back with more Premier League best bets this Satruday. There are six fixtures scheduled for Saturday and I’ve got best bets for all of them. It’s a massive day at both ends of the table. Liverpool host Tottenham just days after their Champions League semi-final. Elsewhere, Burnley host Aston Villa in another must-win match for the Clarets.

I’m backing Southampton plus a small handicap against Brentford. The Saints are unbeaten in their last five away games against Brentford. I expect that will continue here despite the recent form of both sides.

The Bees are one of the form teams in the Premier League with five wins in their last eight. They haven’t lost any of their last three at home and kept clean sheets in all of them.

Southampton have had one win in nine but they’ve shown some improvement in recent weeks. They fought back from two goals down in their previous away match against Brighton but let a one-goal lead slip last week against Palace. They’re due a win and I think it comes here.

Burnley vs Aston Villa Best Bet

Burnley are another surprise form sides. The Clarets have won three in a row in the Premier League. That’s as many as they won in the 22 league fixtures before then. It’s given them a fighting chance of survival but it can’t continue forever.

That’s why I’m backing Aston Villa to get back to winning ways. Like Southampton, Villa are due a win. Steven Gerrard’s men secured their first victory in six matches last week with that 2-0 win over Norwich. They’re a streaky team so it looks good value to back them in the next few weeks.

Amazingly, this is the first time these sides have met this season. A rearranged fixture means that this is the latest into a Premier League season that two sides have met for the first time that campaign. I’m backing Villa to get the three points.

Chelsea vs Wolves Best Bet

I’m not expecting the most entertaining match at the Bridge on Saturday. Chelsea host Wolves for a fixture that has produced little excitement in recent years. It was 0-0 when they met in the reverse fixture back in December – just as it was 0-0 when they met in this fixture last season. In fact, each other last three meetings between the clubs at Stamford Bridge have resulted in under 2.5 goals.

That’s my expectation here. I think under the goals line represents the best value. It’s difficult to pick a winner considering neither side has much to play for. Wolves have only scored one goal in their last seven visits to Stamford Bridge.

The goals are also drying up for Chelsea. Tuchel’s side have managed two in their last three in the league. They’ve scored an average of 1.375 goals per game in their last eight Premier League fixtures at home. Under looks the value pick here.

Crystal Palace vs Watford Best Bet

It will probably a difficult homecoming for manager Roy Hodgson on Saturday. He takes his Watford team to Selhurst Park for the first time since departing Crystal Palace last summer. It will likely seal the Hornets’ relegation and I expect it will be a resounding defeat.

Crystal Palace are finding some form in the later stage of the season as they push for a top-half finish. The Eagles are unbeaten in four at home and only conceded once in that time. A clean sheet here will be the first time they’ve kept clean sheets in four consecutive Premier League matches.

Watford have usually saved their best performances for the away matches. Their win record on the road is 23.5% compared to 11.8% at home. Still, I think that Palace will get the three points here and continue their push to the top half.

Brighton vs Manchester United Best Bet

This match is a rarity in betting terms. Brighton play Manchester United and the Asian handicap line is at +0 for both sides. That’s unbelievable given the size of the two clubs and the cost of each squad. It’s hard to argue too hard considering Manchester United have lost each of their last four away matches.

Still, I’m backing United here. Three of those four away games were at Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal so it’s a slightly unfair comparison. United have also won each of their last seven meetings with Brighton, that’s their longest winning streak against any current Premier League team.

Brighton haven’t won any of their last eight home matches and they’ve only scored in three of them. United look great value here +0.

Liverpool vs Tottenham Best Bet

The final match of the day is also the most important. A rampant Liverpool side host Tottenham who themselves chase a place in the top 4. The Reds booked their place in the Champions League final in midweek. It was their 22nd win in 26 matches in all competitions. They’ve won 12 in a row at home in the Premier League.

But Tottenham have a habit of beating the biggest teams. They’ve already taken six points off Manchester City this season and they drew 2-2 with Liverpool when they met in North London back in December.

The Asian handicap line gives Tottenham 1.25 goals heading into this one. That feels a little generous considering the Reds played a big match away in Europe in midweek. Squad rotation is creeping in for Liverpool. This will be their fifth match in 14 days. They’ve played two games per week since the start of April and they will do until the end of the season. An off day is due and I think it comes here.
