Wednesday is all about a cracking day of action at the Cheltenham Festival, with the Queen Mother Champion Chase at 3.30pm very much the highlight on a very competitive card. Nicky Henderson’s 2019 Supreme Novice winner has always been a chaser on looks, and he created a deep impression when winning on chasing debut at Kempton on the 23rd November 2020. He jumped like a natural that day and was in complete isolation from halfway on the decent ground, looking every inch a plausible replacement in time for the stables superstars’ Sprinter Sacre and Altior.

Since then there have been one or two training issues at home, but that has not stopped him maintaining his unbeaten record over fences, and he has impressed in victory at Kempton and Ascot in the last couple of months in the lead up to the 2022 Festival (beating Energumene in the Clarence House in the race of the season so far).

Jonjo O’Neill’s quirky smooth traveller does not always deliver all that he promises off the bridle, but he has a terrific record at this track in true run races and will love the drying ground conditions now expected on Wednesday at the Festival.

Deep winter ground have not helped him see things out this season, but he shaped a lot better than the bare result last time at Newbury and is sure to get a very patient ride from rear in this bigger field.
