Belgium dominated Group B in the first stage of the tournament and won all three of their matches. They scored seven and conceded just one goal in their three matches, and finished sitting comfortably in first place, with a 6-point advantage over second-placed Denmark. Only Denmark was able to score against them, but Belgium still came out victorious.
Portugal played in the ‘group of death’ and lived. They faced an incredibly difficult task right at the start of the tournament and got the job done. They faced Hungary, France, and Germany in the group stage, and with a draw against France and victory over Hungary, Portugal qualified for the knockout stage.
This will be the first meeting between Belgium and Portugal in a major tournament. Portugal are unbeaten in their last five matches against Belgium across all competitions since the 0:3 defeat in 1989.
Portugal and Belgium scored the exact same number of goals in the tournament so far with seven apiece. However, Belgium only conceded one goal in the group stage, compared to Portugal’s six.

Belgium finished atop Group B and scored seven goals in three matches. Romelu Lukaku shares a large portion of the responsibility for their success, scoring three goals. He played very well prior to the tournament and continued this positive run, scoring in almost every match for Belgium. Portugal already conceded six goals in the group stage, and finding the net shouldn’t be a problem for the Belgium star.
Ronaldo has also been playing very well for his team, and led them to the knockout stage despite being in the ‘group of death’. Cristiano Ronaldo is now the top-scoring European player at major tournaments, with his brace against France giving him his 21st goal. That was already Ronaldo’s second brace of Euro 2021.
History suggests that betting on the draw in the knockout stage is indeed very profitable. In fact, according to bettingexpert News Chief Editor Andrew Brocker, ‘Betting on the draw in the Euros would have returned a profit of almost 20% on investment across the 43 knockout stage matches played across the 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016 tournaments.’ Additionally, these two teams are very evenly matched, and a draw is much more likely to happen than the 3.25 odds suggest.
