The High Five Sunday article is back, probing into five fixtures across Europe’s top five European leagues. The aim? Five winners, of course.
In this article:
England, Premier League, Saturday, August 28th, 14:00 (UK)
In Peter Bankes’ five officiated games this season, card totals of 2, 6, 10, 5 and 8 make appealing viewing for those inclined to a bookings punt.
Last campaign, Bankes produced 4.50 yellow cards per90 average from 12 fixtures, alongside a 4.11 total when he dropped down to officiate (nine matches) in the Championship.
Away from the referee’s keenness to dish out bookings, Wolves versus Newcastle should produce some interesting battles between key personnel on the pitch. The prospect of Allan Saint-Maximin toying with Jonny and Adama Traore up against Dan Burn should have tongues wagging at both ends of Molyneaux.
Italy, Serie A, Sunday, August 28th, 19:45 (UK)
Cremonese made their 28% count at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, scoring twice and recording 13 shots at Il Viola’s goal in the season’s opening game. If Napoli are afforded the same freedom, you’d be brave to back against them taking their chances. Interestingly, Cremonese recorded nine shots at goal in the second half, a 45-minute period where the visitors were reduced to ten men for the entirety (44′ red card – Gonzalo Escalante).
Next up, Fiorentina travelled to Empoli and bore witness to a 0-0 draw despite playing against ten men, once again, for the final half an hour.
Napoli, on the other hand, look dangerous. The inclusion of the Georgian, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and his three goals in two games imply Napoli have another star on their hands. Alongside Victor Osimhen, Giovanni Simeone, and Giacomo Raspadori, there are certainly goals in this new-look Naples outfit.
The opening victories of 2-5 versus Hellas Verona and 4-0 against Monza prove that to be the case. Two big wins were precisely what the doctor ordered after a reshuffle this summer, with Fiorentina welcoming Napoli on Sunday at what could be the wrong time for them.
With the selection landing in the last five head-to-heads, history is on our side, too.

France, Ligue 1, Sunday, August 28th, 19:45 (UK)
Paris Saint Germain have both hands on the Ligue 1 trophy once again, ready to storm off into the night and not be seen again until the parade in early 2023. That’s how it feels after three humiliations to the tune of 17 goals.
Clermont, Montpellier and Lille left after 90 minutes up against Christophe Galtier’s PSG, battered and bruised, offering little competition to a rampant, star-studded PSG outfit. The 0-5, 5-2, and 1-7 scorelines suggest the same may be in store for AS Monaco on Sunday, despite the level of opposition they provide turning up a notch.
Takumi Minamino, Mohamed Camara, Breel Embolo, and Malang Sarr arrive in the South of France to bolster options in the absence of Real Madrid man Aurélien Tchouameni – a set of incomings you’d have to say should do just fine in France. However, we’re betting on Paris Saint Germain here in the hope they’re still at their destructive best for one more week, at least.
If they are, the selection shouldn’t be much of an issue. It has landed in each of PSG’s three fixtures which should come as no surprise.
England, Premier League, Saturday, August 28th, 14:00 (UK)
David Coote is at the whistle for West Ham’s trip to the Midlands. The Hammers have endured a torrid start to life in 2022/23, going from 33/1 shouts for relegation in the summer to 8/1 chances after three defeats to Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and Brighton.
There’s a small matter of a European second leg in Denmark to deal with on Thursday – again, not ideal preparation for a Premier League Sunday fixture. But, that’s the pitfalls of success in football, one Moyes and Co will need to get used to if the aim is to compete on both fronts.
Here, Coote oversees two sides out for blood, desperate for points. Steven Gerrard’s less than desirable start in the hot seat will have him asking his squad for more than they’ve shown, whereas Moyes’ team talks will likely take care of themselves given results.
The official comes into the match-up with an average of 4.65 cards per90 from 20 Premier League matches last season. Furthermore, within that total, 3.45 came in the second half, with 70% of matches ticking off both teams receiving cards in the second 45 for punters.

Spain, La Liga, Sunday, August 28th, 16:30 (UK)
We only have two games to go off in La Liga, but Villarreal have impressed. Unfortunately, Getafe hasn’t, conceding three goals in both fixtures – first to Atleti on the first day of the season and then to newly-promoted Girona.
Either side of their 4-2 win in Europe against Hajduk Split, the Yellow Submarine posted two La Liga victories to get their season underway.
The 0-3 result versus Real Valladolid and an impressive 0-2 win at the Wanda Metropolitano gave an insight into just how tricky Villarreal will be to play throughout the season ahead.
Now, Getafe is next up. At evens for the win, it’s a tempting price. Bet365’s 1.90 lags just behind, but there’s Early Payout attached.

A football acca is an accumulator bet, a type of bet that consists of several selections across different matches that are combined together into one single bet. An acca usually. consists of at least four selections but many more can be included. There will be odds for the single bet as a whole which is calculated by multiplying the odds of all of the selections. A football acca is one of the most popular ways to bet. This is the case because they can create potentially massive odds for a small stake. Many punters choose to create football accas which is what we have created here. If one of these selections loses then the football acca will lose. This type of bet needs every selection to win in order to succeed.
