Juventus vs Sassuolo Tip 1: Bianconeri face their nemesis
Italy, Serie A, Tuesday, January 16th, 19:45 (UK)
Juventus’ season seemed to go nowhere after their debacle in Sassuolo at the end of September 2023.
In their 4-2 defeat, which so far remains the only one of Bianconeri’s season, last season’s limits reemerged in the form of a lack of coordinated high press and a worrying defensive frailty.
But on the ruins of that shambolic performance, Massimiliano Allegri quickly erected a rock solid side, unwilling to take many risks but with a granitic mentality that has kept them within touching distance of leaders Inter.
Juve have kept eight clean sheets in the last 13 games, and since matchday five, they’ve never won a game by more than one goal margin in Serie A.
Their ponderous and reactive approach is highlighted by the fact they’ve scored 15 goals less than Inter.
But Juve’s results, which have mirrored the ones achieved by Simone Inzaghi’s men (with the exception of the scoreless draw away at Atalanta for the Turin side), serve as a reminder that ugly wins ultimately bring the same amount of points as the flamboyant ones.
Enter Sassuolo, one the most unpredictable teams in Italy’s top flight, who’ve been capable of beating three out of four Serie A best sides (Inter, Juve and Fiorentina), but find themselves only five points adrift from salvation.
Their journey this season has been almost extraordinary: 26 goals scored (more than Lazio and Bologna), only one clean sheet and the highest tally of rescued points (nine) from a losing position in Serie A.

Juventus vs Sassuolo Tip 2: Italy’s giant-killers looking for another scalp
Sassuolo are really hard to predict. Two of their strikers, Berardi (9 goals) and Pinamonti (7 goals), are in the top five for goals in Serie A and together have scored more than Juve’s three best scorers (Vlahovic, 7; Chiesa, 5 and Gatti (alongside Rabiot) with 3).
Yet the Neroverdi’s last two Serie A games have ended 1-0, but these score lines are highly deceptive. In fact, Sassuolo had more chances than AC Milan in their defeat at San Siro, whereas goalkeeper Andrea Consigli was the man of the match last weekend against Fiorentina as he saved a penalty and a couple of other dangerous shots.
Nine of the last 12 Sassuolo games in all competitions have seen both teams on the scoresheet as the Neroverdi themselves only failed to find the net five times in the entire ‘girone di andata’ (the first 19 fixtures in Serie A).
Of course, Sassuolo are renowned as Serie A’s giant killers, and since 2021, they’ve beaten Juve already three times.
The Bianconeri, on the other hand, have shown the resilience only great teams possess, which has helped them to pick up important late wins against Verona, Monza, Frosinone and, lately, Salernitana.

Juventus vs Sassuolo Tip 3: hosts might need another comeback
Juventus went behind in their last two games, against Salernitana in Coppa Italia and Serie A, but managed to win both matches.
The visitors have scored the first goal in less than half of their games, but they’re perhaps the most unpredictable side at the moment in Serie A.
Knowing his team struggle with positional defending, manager Stefano Dionisi will ask his players to try to start the game strongly and press Juve, hoping an early lead might finally unsettle the league’s runners up.
Although Juventus have won six games by 1-0 this season, this match is unlikely to be a low scoring one. The vast majority of Sassuolo’s games have ended with more than 1.5 goals (86%) and more than half (56%) have seen at least three goals being scored.
The visitors have also e conceded in both halves in more than a third (36%) of their matches played so far.
Sassuolo’s very open approach to games often rattles even the most experienced teams; Juve are huge favourites but a win from behind for the Bianconeri is not an option to discard as we close out the Juventus vs Sassuolo prediction and tips betting preview.

Juventus vs Sassuolo Team News Preview: three key absentees for the hosts
Juventus will be without Gatti and Mckennie, both suspended, and Adrien Rabiot is also likely to miss the game due to a muscular injury.
Andrea Cambiaso should replace Weah as right wing-back, and Yildiz is likely to start up front again alongside Vlahovic, who has scored in two of Juve’s last three Serie A games.
Juventus will face Frosinone in Coppa Italia on Thursday evening, so look out for any last-minute changes to their line-up.
The visitors may be without right-back Tolijan, who Viti might replace. Centre-back Ruan Tressoldi is also in contention with Gianmarco Ferrari for a start. Defrel, Racic, Vina and Obiang will all miss the match due to injuries.
The Predicted Serie A Table
Our in-house predictive model, BETSiE, predicts that this will be a 2nd vs 13th match-up come the end of the Serie A season.
It might be a bold prediction to have Juventus 8.1 points behind Inter Milan, but BESTiE’s projections have leant on the underlying numbers and believe the performances in Inter’s camp are more scalable over the course of the season compared to Juve’s.
