We’ve got Premier League best bets in midweek. The action doesn’t stop in England’s top flight with nine matches to look out for in a special gameweek. Manchester United vs Tottenham is probably the pick of the bunch but there are also some big matches at the bottom of the table. Bournemouth vs Southampton and Leicester vs Leeds will have a big say on where teams end up in May and perhaps who is in the dugout.

This midweek matchday starts off with Brighton vs Nottingham Forest on the South Coast. It’s the first time these clubs have met in the English top flight since January 1983. Forest have won five of their last six top-flight matches against Brighton but lost each of their last two in the Championship.
The Seagulls need a return to that form. The goodwill towards new manager Roberto De Zerbi eroded with that 2-0 defeat to Brentford in midweek. Brighton lost as many Premier League matches in De Zerbi’s first three fixtures as they did in Graham Potter’s final 15. Goals are an issue. They’ve failed to score from their last 35 shots across matches against Spurs and Brentford. That will need to change against an improving Nottingham Forest.
Because things are getting better at the City Ground. Forest secured a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa last week and were a penalty kick away from getting a point from Wolves at the weekend. The xG stats were good once again for Steve Cooper’s side and there’s a feeling that a big win can change everything at Forest.
I’m not convinced that win will come here but they’ve got a chance. Forest look good value to get a result here, especially considering the bookmakers have given them 1.25 goals in the Asian handicap market. They play Arsenal and Liverpool after this one so this Brighton fixture will be their best opportunity to get points for the next few weeks.

Brentford host a resurgent Chelsea who have won four in a row in the Premier League for the first time since March. The Bees will look to build on that vital 2-0 win over Brighton at the weekend with another one here. They’ve won six of their last 10 at home in the Premier League.
They also had the better of Chelsea the last time these sides met. Brentford beat the Blues 4-1 back in April. Their biggest competitive win against the club. They’re also aiming to win consecutive league matches against Chelsea for the first time since February 1939.
But Chelsea are picking up points. Results are improving for the Blues – even if there is still work to do with the performances. The 2-0 win over Aston Villa at the weekend came as a result of a defensive mistake from the hosts and a string of exceptional saves from Kepa Arrizabalaga. The scoreline flattered the Blues.
That’s part of the reason why I’m backing Brentford on the Asian handicap market here. Things will start to even out for the Blues and the +.75 Asian handicap for the home side feels generous here.

After that fizzing win against Manchester City on Sunday evening, Liverpool have little time to prepare for another Premier League clash this Wednesday night. West Ham make the often-perilous trip to Anfield here. David Moyes was furious after his side only escaped St Mary’s with a point on Sunday. He’ll hope for more here from his improving Hammers team.
Things are looking up for West Ham. They’ve underperformed their xG for several weeks now but are passing the eye test with greater frequency. Gianluca Scamacca has looked sharp while Declan Rice is returning to his form of last season.
For Liverpool, this is about consistency. It’s something that has eluded Jurgen Klopp’s men in a season that has seen just three Premier League victories from 10. The highs were high – a 9-0 demolition of Bournemouth and a 90th-minute winner to beat Newcastle along with that win over City – but mediocrity has been the name of the game more often than not.
I think they’ll struggle to find that consistency. West Ham are tough opponents for this midweek match, especially so considering their recent record against the Reds. The bookies have given West Ham 1.25 goals on the Asian handicap line for this one. That advantage would have been enough for the Hammers in four of their last five Premier League matches against the Reds. And that was a much better Liverpool side than the one we’ve seen so far this season.

Manchester United host Tottenham on Wednesday evening with both sides in form. United dropped points against Newcastle at the weekend but have won five of their last seven. Tottenham lost the North London Derby to Arsenal a few weeks back but that remains their sole league defeat this campaign.
United have been Spurs’ bogey team for so long. They’ve lost more Premier League matches against United than they have against any other side. They lost twice against them last season despite finishing two places and 13 points higher than them. There’s still more than a hint of “lads, it’s Tottenham” in United’s performances whenever they face the North London side.
Antonio Conte will take some confidence from his past record against Manchester United but it comes with a caveat. The Italian has won four of his three matches against the Red Devils with Tottenham and previous clubs. However, all seven of those matches have been won by the side playing at home. He’ll hope for more from his Spurs side that has lost only one in 10 away league games.
I’m backing Spurs here, despite the history. The bookies have given them a quarter of a goal which would have been enough in nine of their last 10 Premier League away games. They’ve played Liverpool and Chelsea in that time too.
United are also struggling with injuries. The illness of Christian Eriksen cost them at the weekend and United will be hurt if he misses out again. Spurs have lost Richarlison but Dejan Kulusevski could return which leaves that front three far better balanced.
