The Premier League is heading towards its conclusion but with plenty to play for at both ends of the table, Nathan Joyes provides his Tottenham vs Nottingham Forest prediction, team news, lineups and fixtures preview.
Having landed all three tips in his Nottingham Forest vs Crystal Palace preview at the weekend, before two more in his Nottingham Forest vs Fulham preview, you’d be foolish not to see what he has on offer this Sunday.
England, Premier League, Sunday, April 7th, 18:00 (UK)
Nottingham Forest enjoyed one of their best results of the season with a 3-1 victory over Fulham, building on their 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace over the Easter bank holiday.
While Santo’s side continues to find their feet at the City Ground, results away from home haven’t changed too much under his leadership. Their inability to defend set pieces continues to be an issue, and having conceded another vs Fulham, it’s back to the drawing board once more.
It’s also now seven matches without a win on the road in 2024 for Forest, and a trip to London to face Spurs, who are chasing a Champions League spot, may be a bridge too far despite their recent return to form.
At home, Spurs have won four of their last five matches, scoring at least two goals in those victories. Despite starting slowly vs Luton and Crystal Palace, they’ve been able to spin games on their head due to their attacking options.
Being able to suffocate teams in front of their fans doesn’t bode well for Forest, who often have lapses in their concentration, which will be exploited – especially against a top-six side.
Forest can continue their goalscoring form, but their winless streak in 2024 looks set to continue on Sunday.
Nottingham Forest wouldn’t be where they are if it wasn’t for Chris Wood.
The 32-year-old has been in phenomenal form under his new manager and with 12 Premier League goals to his name, Spurs will need to keep a close eye on him if they are to win the match.
However, his movement in the final third has caught plenty of teams out. His header vs Crystal Palace would have been all the rage across social media if it had been Erling Haaland, while his right-footed strike vs Fulham outside the box was a sign of a confident striker.
Marshalling Wood isn’t an easy task. With the likes of Morgan Gibbs-White, Anthony Elanga and Danilo in behind, Forest are quick to counter in numbers, often pulling defences apart- which could create half a yard of space Wood needs.
His goalscoring run has to end at some point, but priced at evens for the Kiwi to have a single shot on target looks to be a phenomenal play in this fixture – especially with Spurs failing to keep clean sheets of late.
Brennan Johnson left Nottingham Forest in the summer for £50m and while it was good business for both clubs, Forest fans won’t enjoy watching him face his boyhood team once again on Sunday.
The Welsh international has been in terrific form in his first season with the club, comfortably adapting to his new surroundings and demanding fanbase.
With two goals in his last four matches for his club, Johnson controversially had a goal not awarded to him vs Luton, but he showed his instinctive finishing inside the box to score vs West Ham last time out.
The international break was sandwiched in between these fixtures, and he managed to get on the scoresheet for Wales vs Finland, as he looks to sign off the season in style.
Forest’s defence is vulnerable, especially on the road. If they switch off, expect their former player of the year to punish them inside the box.
Tottenham vs Nottingham Forest Prediction odds via bet365 as at 14:00, April 3rd, 2024. Odds may now differ.
Spurs head into this fixture with no fresh injury concerns to worry about, but it’s unclear as to whether Ange Postecoglou will rotate after dropping points vs West Ham.
Brennan Johnson will be confident about keeping his place in the starting XI after scoring in that match, while Timo Werner put in another good performance and should keep his spot on the opposite flank.
Callum Hudson-Odoi limped off against Fulham but it looked to be a case of the former Chelsea winger putting in one hell of a shift, rather than him picking up an injury. Aside from that, the visitors are unlikely to rotate after picking up three points vs Fulham.
Tottenham possible starting lineup: Vicario; Udogie, Dragusin, Romero, Porro, Bissouma, Sarr, Johnson, Maddison, Kulusevski, Son
Nottingham Forest possible starting lineup: Sels; Aina, Murillo, Omabamidele, Williams, Danilo, Yates, Hudson-Odoi, Gibbs-White, Elanga, Wood
