Croatia took an early lead thanks to an own goal, with Spain responding to take the match to the halftime break 1-1. Spain would take what appeared a commanding 3-1 lead in the 77th minute before Croatia with a goal in the 85th minute followed by the equalizer in the opening minute of added time.

Spain would score twice in the opening period of extra time, sending them through to face Switzerland in the quarter finals on Friday night.

Switzerland scored early and took an unlikely 1-0 lead into halftime before France would score twice within 2 minutes early in the second half, both thanks to Karim Benzema and then a third goal in the 76th minute from Paul Pogba. Switzerland would respond in the 81st minute and then again early in added time to provide the day with it’s second 3-3 result.

Scores would remain 3-3 until the end of extra time, where Switzerland would progress 5-4 on penalties to meet Spain in the quarter finals of Euro 2021 on Friday in St Petersburg.
