The upcoming 2023/24 will be the record 90th iteration of the Primeira Liga. The action kicks off on 11 August 2023 and leads all the way to 19 May 2024, when the new champion of Portugal will be crowned. Benfice will be coming as the defending champions, having won its record 38th title, further establishing itself as the top club in Portugal.

The newest season will feature no changes when it comes to the number of teams. 18 clubs will still be featuring in the Primeira Liga, with the last two directly being relegated to Liga Portugal 2, while the 16th club will have another chance to stay up through a payoff decider.

Due to the league dropping down to seventh place in Europe, only the champion will get a direct spot for the Champions League next season. The second-seeded team in the league will have to play in the Champions League qualification stage. The third and fourth teams will compete in the qualification stages for the Europa League and the Conference League, respectively.
